Mobile food vending

Mobile food vending businesses contribute to on-street activity and energy by selling food or beverages from a vehicle. This business model allows mobile food vendors to test their product offering on a small scale before investing in a fixed business.

Mobile food vendors must comply with the same food safety standards as other food businesses, as well as the regulations for mobile food businesses which are governed by the state government.

To operate your mobile food vehicle in the City of Unley, you must apply for a mobile food vending permit with us. Before applying for a mobile food vending permit, please make sure you have read and understood the City of Unley’s  Mobile Food Vending Location Rules(PDF, 113KB) .

To apply for your first mobile vending permit or renew your existing permit with the City of Unley, please follow the process below:

Online

Step 1.What you will need

  • A copy of your public liability insurance to the value of $20 million dollars
  • An image of your Mobile Food vending vehicle and proposed set-up
  • A copy of your current Food Business notification form from the issuing Council

Step 2.Costs

Step 3.Complete the application online

In person

We will assess your application, and contact you within 10 business days.

Timeframes

The approval time for applications differs depending on the complexity of your application. If we need to notify your application, it may take up to two months for approval. This time frame may increase if we;

  • need to ask for more information;
  • receive representations from notified parties; or
  • if the application needs to be assessed by the Council Assessment Panel.
