Economic indicators

An economic indicator is a piece of economic data that is used to interpret current or future investment possibilities and judge the overall health of an economy.

Economic indicators are varied, but some of the most commonly followed economic indicators released by the government and non-profit organisations include:

  • Consumer Price Index (CPI);
  • Gross Domestic Product (GDP);
  • Unemployment figures; and
  • Wage Price Index (WPI).
