The Santos Tour Down Under returns to King William Road on Sunday 22 January 2023
This internationally recognised cycling race is an opportunity to profile the streets and the business community of the City of Unley to those visiting our city to see the Men’s Stage 5 Race Start.
Businesses on King William Road are encouraged to be prepared for an influx of spectators and to maximise the economic flow-on effect that the event presents.
To help drive sales and promote the King William Road precinct, a factsheet(PDF, 322KB) has been developed to guide business owners with hints and tips to consider.
Hospitality traders should consider extra staff, adapt menus and implement servicing to accommodate the greater than normal demand.
Retail traders should consider maximising return through incentivising sales and reasons to return outside of event times.
Council staff have engaged with business along King William Road to ensure they are prepared and aware of the opportunities that come with the event.
About the event
From 6am until 2pm, King William Road will be closed to vehicles immediately south of McGowan Avenue to the intersection of Jasper Street. See the map of road closures.
Festivities for the Schwalbe Men’s Stage 5 Start will commence at approximately 10am on King William Road with the arrival of the Tour Parade.
The Stage 5 race start line will be at the intersection of Walter Street, with the race commencing at 11.30am sharp.
Cyclists head south along King William Road, then left on Cross Road toward the Adelaide Hills, travelling up the old freeway via Devil’s Elbow then towards Mt Lofty.
The Schwalbe Men’s Stage 5 race is the final challenge for male athletes of the 2023 race.
