Got a hankering for a meatball sub or a mortadella-laden panini? Or how about some hearty, all-day breakfast fare?

Clarence Park eatery and deli Our Boy Roy, which opened in December 2022, is the place to satiate your tastebuds.

Local father-of-two Michael Cotton is behind the new venture. Michael previously ran a coffeeshop in Sydney before returning to his hometown, and he also owns Semaphore café High Tide.

The new-look café uses his middle name, which has been passed down in his family for generations. The moniker’s ‘old-time vibe’, he says, is also intentional.

‘Our Boy Roy pays homage to the old community deli-come-general store feel’ Michael says. ‘I want people to feel at home and to be comfortable here.

‘The vibe is meant to feel all-inclusive and not alienating. The “our” part of the name is so people can feel a sense of ownership of the place.’

Its fit-out by Rad Studio, which includes pops of pastel hues and plenty of natural light, has been designed to suit ‘both introverts and extroverts’. This includes window-facing bar seating, dining room tables – with private nooks – and a rear courtyard featuring a herb garden.

The menu, meanwhile, is ‘focused heavily on indigenous, native ingredients’ – think Davidson’s plum hotcakes with blood lime.

As well as serving up food and drink, customers can also shop for items like bread, deli meats, flowers, condiments, and sweets.

Plus, the eatery is the first place in Adelaide to offer batch-brew, filtered coffee via a self-serve tap. Michael says it’s been popular and is ‘selling out daily’ too.
