Little Droppings eco-nappy service
Published on 10 January 2023
Little Droppings founder and director Jacqui Storey might be in the business of baby poo, but she is helping to make a big difference in the world.
The company, founded in her Parkside home in 2022, helps make using cloth nappies a ‘no-brainer’ for parents.
‘We provide a door-to-door nappy facility for parents and childcare centres where we offer loan nappies and a laundry service. We wash, dry, fold and then deliver the nappies back to be used again’ Jacqui says.
“I admit there have been times when I've thought “How did I find myself in the business of cleaning baby poo?” But less than a year in I'm proud to report we've diverted hundreds of kilograms of waste from landfill already.’
Recognising the positive environmental impact, Unley Council have been supportive of her business.
‘Council were keen to discuss how my business reduces waste, and they supported my grant application for funding for a commercial washing machine, which meant I was able to upscale the business’ she says.
‘Council were very helpful, sharing recent waste audit data with me. It revealed the huge proportion of nappy waste going to landfill – I had no idea a whopping 16 per cent of residential waste consists of disposable nappies.’
The company uses modern cloth loan nappies from Little Popkin and also provides an option for people to ‘BYO’ and supply their own nappies.
‘My hope is to make cloth nappies the norm again, and ultimately to do away with disposables’ Jacqui says.
‘I want to create a more sustainable future for my daughter, where we reduce our use of things like single-use plastics and start making a positive impact on the environment rather than a negative one.’
