There’s a lot to love about trees.

The City of Unley is aiming to increase tree canopy cover in our Council Area to 31% by 2045. Studies show that trees help protect assets, make communities feel safe and attract business and investment. This target recognises that, as well as the many other benefits of trees for urban cooling, character, community health and wellbeing, biodiversity and the liveability of our suburbs.

Council has an active tree planting program on public land, however 80% of land in the City of Unley is privately owned, and data shows that the number of trees on private land is declining.

To achieve the Council-wide target of 31%, we need your help to reverse this trend. If you own a commercial or residential property in the City of Unley, we want to learn if there’s anything stopping you from increasing tree cover in your outdoor spaces, why you may have removed trees previously and what could assist or encourage you to plant new, maintain or grow the trees you already have.

Tell us how we can work together to build greener neighbourhoods!

You can do this by completing this survey or suggesting ways that Council could support your efforts to increase tree canopy within your outdoor spaces, like your open-air car parks and outdoor dining spaces, via this ideas board. The survey and ideas board are both open from Monday 14 August, 2023 to 5pm, Thursday 7 September 7, 2023.

Alternatively, you can register an Expression of Interest to be part of our Community Panel. The Community Panel will meet up to four times in October, and will be responsible for reviewing the data, research and feedback received via the community survey and ideas board. They will then develop a set of recommendations for further feedback from the community, and ultimately Council.
