The City of Unley is committed to fostering a smart, sustainable, and inclusive local economy. The Circular Champions Pilot, in partnership with Unley Road Traders Association and Plastic Free SA was designed to help local hospitality businesses reduce single-use plastics and embrace circular economy solutions. This initiative is part of our broader strategy to support businesses in adopting practical, impactful sustainability measures.
Single-use plastics contribute significantly to environmental pollution and initiatives like this can lead the way in reducing waste at a local level. Four Unley Road hospitality businesses participated in the pilot including:
Each business trialled one or multiple circular economy solutions. The City of Unley provided financial support to cover the cost of participation and remove financial risk for businesses. Businesses trialled a range of reusable systems, including Reusably’s stainless steel cups and containers to reduce takeaway packaging waste as well as Fleurieu Milk’s keg system, replacing single-use milk bottles. This pilot was an opportunity to lead, support local traders, and meet sustainability goals in a practical, measurable way and we encourage other businesses to explore circular solutions.
